We Live in Needs not in Years

Mere longevity of life, if not coupled with good deeds, is  quite meaningless. Our life is ninety per cent perspiration and ten per cent inspiration. In whatever sphere of life we are placed, we should do our work with unflinching devotion. Better to wear out than to rust out. Whoever has done deeds worth remembering, has no need of ancestors. A ploughman on his legs is higher than a gentleman on his knees. One who lives long without doing anything great on the earth, passes out of world's stage' unwept, unhonoured and unsung'. True life consists not in the length of our existence on this planet of our, but in the noble and heroic deeds we do. Ben Jonson has rightly said. "A lily of day is much fairer than the oak which stands for three hundred years only to fall a long at atlast-dry, bald and serene."

Many men in this world live to a ripe old age, eating, drinking and hoarding. As soon as they away they are forgotten. On the other hand, there are men with very brief span of life who live nobly and intensely and leave behind them their memories and works forever. Through their noble deeds they leave an indelible impression on our minds.
All great men who have towered high above their fellow men, were men of diligence and perseverance, and did great deeds. Million years after death, they still live in our memory. their lives have become examples for posterity. They survive in history, they lives in literature; their anecdotes are our yarns; their names have become idioms, their facets of life are metaphors for us. They have carved a niche in our minds and hearts.

It is said that an elephant lives for 150 years, a crocodile lives for 250 years and an oak tree lives for 300 years. Does their long span of life make any mark on our mind more than that of a flower that lives only for one day. Not to speak of animals and plants, there are men and women who live up to hundred years or more. But in the absence of some sterling deed, they no more exist in our memory. On the other hand, there are many who are still remembered though they met their premature death long ago.

Human life is like a bubble. It is bound to burst after short while. Some may enjoy a long span of life, and other may be cut in prime of their life. But they span of life matters little, because our deeds are the true yardstick to measure the worth of our life. We are not to mind the price but to assess the value our real worth is to be judged by the struggle we put forth to surmount the difficulties and the good deeds we leave behind. we live in deeds and not in years. We should be altruistic  and not egoistic in what every we do. we should sacrifice our personal comforts for the welfare of others spirit is the immortal essence in us. It has to spark of divine conflagration. It is the spiritual strength that can enable us to do good deeds.

There are men who can called the real salt of the earth. They dedicate their lives to the service of mankind. They continue to live, even after their mortal death in the hearts of their posterity and their fellowmen. They are immortalized by their golden deeds, posterity will remember the name of Gandhiji and Lincoln not because of their long span of lives, but because of their significant contribution to the history of their respective countries.

In English dramatic literature the name of Shakespeare has become immortal, not because of his long life, but because of his unique contribution to the realm of drama. Guru Deve Ravindra Nat Targore is revered for Gitanjali and not for the many years he lived.Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, J.C. Bose, Lal,Pal, Gopal, Tilak, Deen Bandhu are the examples of those great persons whose glorious deeds have secured for them an honoured place among immortal Indians.
