Science In The Service of Man

Science has helped in the spread of knowledge. The first thing that we long for every morning is a newspaper. Printing technology has brought about a revolution in the field of knowledge. It has helped man in quenching his thirst for knowledge. Newspapers, magazines and other such publications are the mind of the modern man. Newspaper exercise a powerful influence on the mind of the modern man. From a few pages of a newspaper we can know the happenings of the whole world. Similarly books written and printed in one corner of the world reach every corner of it.

Science has given us extra brains. printing machines, type writers, computers, calculator, tape recorder and many other such devices are man's extra brains. With the help of these extra brains man is working wonders. He is receiving knowledge from different sources. These brains are helping man in transfering knowledge from generation to generation. Similarly, the knowledge of the ancients has not been only preserved but also used for the benefit of mankind. Without science, the spread of knowledge to this extent would have been difficult.
Science has helped man in maintaining his health . The man of today is largely free from the fear of pain. The wonderful medicines given to man by science have freed him from many diseases. Epidemic like Plague and Malaria have been eradicated. Life expectancy has increased considerably. About 70 years back seven out of ten children in India used to die immediately after birth. But now the things have changed. Now nine out of ten children survive. The wonderful medicines provided by science have made it possible. Today we have emergency medicines which give us immediate relief.

Machines are one of the choicest gifts of science to man. They are our extra limbs. When can do much more and much better with these extra limbs than with our physical limbs. Man does not wish to take the trouble of walking. Science has given him cars, scooters, trains, aeroplanes and many other such devices to save him from the trouble of walking. Lifts are his extra feet. Cranes are his extra arms. Type writers, Computers, calculators etc. are his extra brains. In fact the comforts enjoyed by the modern man are largely due to the extra limbs provided to him by science.

No one can live like a Sanyasi today. Puritans and stoics have no existence in the modern world. Modern man cannot live without a fair amount of entertainment. science has helped man in this field also. Today, we have cinema, Television, Video, Radio and many other such sources of entertainment. These sources of entertainment remove our worries and boredom.

Science has helped man in unveiling the mysteries of the universe. It has helped him to know the secrets of nature. Oceanology has helped us in knowing the secrets of the ocean. Similarly, the space technology has helped us in knowing the secrets of the outer space. Today, flying on the wings of science, man is trying to reach other planets. He has already reached the moon and is trying to reach other planets. It is believed that 2050 A.D man will establish a colony on the moon. With the help of oceanology, man has reached Ancratica. Soon the wealth of the frogen continent will be used for the betterment of man. Science as such, has emerged out our best friend and patron.
